Iron Sky fights for the prize of Best European Fantastic Film at Sitges!

October 1st, 2012 by Timo Vuorensola

Your friendly neighborhood Moon Nazi film IRON SKY is competing at Sitges International Film Festival for the Méliès d’Or prize, handed out every year to the best European Fantastic Film, among 8 other contestants. Iron Sky won the Silver Méliès prize at Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival this year (as well as the Audience Award). The Silver Méliès winners of this year’s competition are competing for the Golden Méliès at Sitges every year.

The list of competing films is interesting – starting with Kill List by Ben Wheatley, whom I got a chance to meet and see in Espoo Ciné last year to The Divide by Xavier Gens, with whom I’m attached at a episodical film Paris I’ll Kill You as one of the directors, not forgetting Vanishing Waves by lovely Kristina Buozyte, whom I had a privilege to get to know at European Film Festival Palic and later at Lund International Fantastic Film Festival, and who just won the Silver Méliès at Lund, the list is extensive and packed with amazing movies from all the corners of Europe. Iron Sky stands proudly among these films as a unique, epic scale science fiction action / political satire, and grabbing the golden Méliès would be a perfect ending for six years of ass-busting work and 8 months of health-jeopardizing release- and festival touring with the film! So join me crossing fingers, knocking wood, praying for the Great Old Ones and whatever you can do to push Iron Sky to the grand goal!

Iron Sky will be screened at Sitges on 5th and 6th of October; I will be present at the festival from 5th to 8th, so come and say hi if you are around!

EDIT: Unfortunately, we did not win this time – the winner was another amazing film, Vanishing Waves, directed by Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper. The whole Iron Sky team congratulates the winners of the Méliès Award of 2012! You friggin’ deserved it!

    Yhdysvallat suunnitteli ydinpommin räjäyttämistä Kuussa

Yhdysvallat suunnitteli ydinpommin räjäyttämistä Kuussa kylmän sodan aikana.

Räjähdyksen piti näkyä Maahan asti ja kylvää pelkoa Neuvostoliitossa. (COLOURBOX)

Lisäksi he olivat huolissaan Kuun saastuttamisesta radioaktiivisella materiaalilla.

Projekti A119:n paljasti sitä aikoinaan johtanut Nasan tutkija Leonard Reiffel uutistoimisto AP:lle vuonna 2000.
